Eating good quality, jumbo oats (preferably organic) is a more effective way to maintain your energy levels as they are release sugars slowly into the blood stream and contain lots of nutrients that your body will love such as soluble fibre and key minerals such as magnesium and zinc. Magnesium supports the nervous and muscular systems whilst zinc supports immune function.
Recipe Ideas
There are many delicious ways to eat oats either hot or cold, soaked overnight in yogurt or milk or their plant based, unsweetened alternatives. Coconut yogurt is a particular go to of mine that is a perfect pairing with oats along with some sliced fresh fruit, preferably a seasonal fruit. Now that we are in Winter apples or pears are a seasonal, nutritious addition to oats.
Equally, there is nothing more satisfying than having a hot bowl of porridge made the traditional Scottish way with water and added salt (sea salt). If you prefer something sweeter then adding some Manuka honey will be just as delicious.
Good Gut Health
Your gut will love the soluble fibre as it will aid the removal of waste products whilst allowing the gut to absorb all those other good nutrients. Furthermore, foods high in fibre, when consumed, have a satiating effect making you feel fuller for longer. Key plus point, great for weight management!

Cinnamon is a key spice that stabilises blood sugar levels, a sprinkle of cinnamon on your oats is not only delicious but helps maintain stable blood sugar levels and avoid those cravings. Also, adding a handful of organic Chia seeds will give to those 9 essential amino acids that are so key to many bodily functions.
Good for the Purse
Finally, good quality, organic oats are relatively inexpensive compared to standard boxed cereals. They generally last a lot longer are versatile and save on your wallet too.
